1. The September/October Issue of Script is on Newsstands Now!
In the September/October issue of Script, regular columnists and do-it-yourself filmmakers -- like The Still Life's Joel Miller -- offer advice about making your movie on your terms.

On the cover, Oscar®-winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian (Schindler's List, Gangs of New York) discusses the true story behind one of this fall's most anticipated dramas: American Gangster.

As part of Script's "Writers on Writing" series, writer-director Mike Cahill guides readers through his favorite King of California character moments.

A few industry pros -- including Bruce Feirstein (screenwriter, Tomorrow Never Dies) and Brian Spink (literary manager, Benderspink) -- explain what writers do wrong, and how to avoid doing it.

2. Script to Screen: The Kingdom
Former healthcare expert and first-time scribe Matthew Michael Carnahan has two war dramas ready for release this fall. In The Kingdom, Carnahan examines the U.S.'s sometimes contentious relationship with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In this "Script to Screen" feature, senior writer David Cohen speaks to Carnahan and director Peter Berg about balancing dire subject matter with a measure of hope.

3. The Job Factory
Since the writers room is such a fixture in television, the Job Factory wondered if it would work for features. The result was a six-figure deal from Disney and a pile of projects ready for a greenlight. Meet Rob McKittrick, Greg Coolidge, Josh Cagan, Jonathan L. Davis, Matt Allen and Caleb Wilson as they apply their team-writing technique in the pages of Script.

4. Berlanti Television
Though it took better than half a season to gain momentum, ABC's Brothers & Sisters became a breakout series in 2007. As reward for a job well-done, executive producer Greg Berlanti got creative carte blanche -- and two new series in ABC's fall lineup. Senior writer Deb Eckerling talks to Berlanti, as well as Jon Robin Baitz (Brothers & Sisters), Craig Wright (Dirty Sexy Money), and Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone), about crafting family dramas.

iScript
iScript.com is a script reading service with a twist: screenwriters can not only fine tune their script by listening to a professionally recorded read of the script, they can also entice busy Hollywood execs by offering the story in a desirable ‘anytime, anywhere’ audio format. Screenwriters submit their script and iScript creates an audio format of the work. iScript.com uses professionals to make a script or screenplay come to life by recording a customized read of the entire document. The process takes two days and is delivered in a downloadable MP3 format. The recording is also available on CD and flash drive. Once the recording is delivered clients may listen to the audio file ("iScriptTM") on iPods®, MP3 players and CD players. For more information, or to submit your script,

Spalding University
Spalding University offers a low-residency MFA program in screenwriting for the writer who wishes to spend time writing rather than in the classroom. For many, the brief-residency format offers an opportunity not otherwise available. Because the student is at home during the semester, jobs and domestic activities need not be interrupted. While the MFA is the degree most commonly held by writers who teach creative writing at the college level, many brief-residency students simply cherish the experience for its intrinsic value. The program is well suited for people who wish to become better writers and desire the experience of graduate-level instruction.

Through writing fiction, poetry, nonfiction and/or drama, students examine language and meaning both as practitioners and as readers as they develop and hone essential writing techniques. In the areas of playwriting, screenwriting, and writing for interactive media, the final project replaces the thesis or dissertation.
