| Peter Hanson: Tales From the Script |
|
Peter Hanson, director and co-writer of Tales From the Script, has first-hand knowledge of the difficult and sometimes downright cruel business of screenwriting. Luckily for us, he hasn’t given up yet. Instead, he and creator/producer Paul Robert Herman have gathered 50 screenwriters -- some you’ll know and some you won’t (yet) -- to trade war stories. Script sat down with Hanson to discuss the film and a few personal stories. Tales From the Script is the first film in Script's new screening series, in partnership with American Cinematheque. I can't wait to se the movie. How do you sell a script without stepping a foot into Hollywood?

One of the great benefits of being a reviewer (other than not having to pay for the tickets) is that you end up seeing a lot of crappy films, which is surprisingly useful if you take the time to figure out what went wrong and how it might have been fixed. What's harder to figure out is when it went wrong, because a lot of scripts start out stronger than the final film after input (and sometimes egomania) from the various players. It'll be fascinating to hear the 50 stories.
