One of my favorite classes to teach is a topics course on scene writing.  In that class, we discard the macro elements of structure and character arc, break out the microscope, and take a closer look at the tiny cells that make up any piece of dramatic writing – its scenes....

“Don’t Withhold; Reveal, and Complicate”

Two-time Emmy®-winning writer-producer Erik Bork (HBO’s Band of Brothers) says saving information for a shocking reveal late in the story can result in reader confusion or alienation. Bork recommends showing your cards, even as you write toward the "big reveal."
